Erdem is the godfather of the growing software development community in Istanbul. He runs Kokteyl, a software incubator that develops web-based businesses and backend software. As creators of the first Turkish mobile application store, an award winning automated telephone advertising product, and a widely used ad-server, Kokteyl’s reputation is well deserved. Kokteyl’s most successful venture, mackolik.com, is a website that delivers live soccer scores and analysis to Turkey’s growing online betting community. Erdem’s success with Mackolik is indicative of Kokteyl’s future growth potential, with internet use in the region growing explosively. Ten million Turkish internet users came online for the first time in the last year, and online advertising budgets are expected to quadruple in the region by 2014. For a serial entrepreneur with an eye for programming, the timing couldn’t be better.
