Co-founder and CEO of Parclick, Luis Paris (36) was born and raised in Venezuela, where his family carries a 100-year old legacy of entrepreneurial ventures. Between exposure to the pharmaceutical firm Biotech de Venezuela that his mom’s family built and time spent with his paternal grandfather who operated the regional newspaper El Impulso, Luis formed his own entrepreneurial aspirations. But Luis’ dad pushed him away from the family business until he could manage to get at least ten years of experience and an MBA. Faced with limited opportunities during a politically turbulent time in 2003, the Industrial Engineering graduate moved to Spain to launch his career. Luis worked in a number of roles, including management consultant and service delivery manager at Hewlett Packard, overseeing a team of 100 employees worldwide. Later at HP, Luis created and led an internal innovation team to identify, fund, and carry out the ‘next big idea.’ He pursued an executive MBA at IESE and was recruited by British American Tobacco (BAT) at the same time. Luis did not personally align with BAT’s values, but in this role, he found the financial security he would need to quit nine months later in 2011 to develop one of his MBA projects into a business.
