Didem Altınbaşak Tulgan

  • Current company Rafinera

Didem Altinbasak’s entrepreneurial story might re-define the concept of a business incubator. A Turkish native, Didem moved to Boston during the later stages of her pregnancy for better medical care, and her U.S. physician recommended that she purchase a daily, customized meal plan. Upon returning to Turkey, Didem was surprised to find that daily meal plans were non-existent in the Turkish market. So, in 2008, she founded Rafinera, Turkey’s first packaged daily meal plan service, which caters to clients with special dietary needs and goals.

Born and raised in Istanbul, Didem studied business administration at Bilgi University. Upon graduating, she traveled to the US for her MBA in Marketing at Johnson and Wales University. She later worked as a product manager in charge of important accounts.

As it turned out, Didem loved daily meal plans more than her corporate job. She hired a chef to create the dishes, which she tested on a focus group.

Rafinera’s packaged meals offer clients a combination of controlled, healthy, and convenient eating. Clients can choose from 6 meal plans, each consisting of daily, gourmet meals that vary over time-periods. As demand grows, Didem is implementing low-cost strategies to expand Rafinera’s reach.
