Before Cristian Schweizer, Latin America was isolated from the multiplayer online games craze. In 2008, Cristian launched Latin Interactive Network (axeso5.com) to bring MMO games to Latin America. Thanks to innovative local currency payment options and a free-to-play model, these games have captured millions of users and sold millions of virtual goods.
After earning a BS in engineering and an MBA from Thunderbird, worked in the regional marketing departments of large corporations. When the Argentine market crashed he recognized an opportunity to provide the type of consumer entertainment previously supplied by major media companies. He left his job and was approached by a Chilean company to help launch its MMO platform. He turned down the offer and traveled to Asia and the U.S. to study their MMO markets.
Cristian developed a business plan, partnered with two leading Korean MMO game developers, and signed contracts to publish their top-selling games. With his team, he worked around the clock to translate the games and replace every detail with regional versions. Axeso5 also developed partnerships with internet cafes in the region where the latter would buy virtual credit cards and re-sell it to customers.
Axeso5 makes MMO games accessible and engaging for Latin American audiences. The company has focused on “casual” MMO games, which extended the Axeso Cash payment system to more cafés.
With a massive community of engaged gamers, Axeso5 has a strong lead out of the gate in an industry with relatively high barriers to entry.
