After a stressful move back to Turkey from the United States in 2011, that left furniture ruined, and emotions on edge, Basak Raspinar Degim and her husband Erol Degim decided to partner to found, a website to revolutionize the process of buying local services. Their hope was that the website would make hiring a service provider in Turkey, as easy as buying a book on Amazon.

Armut’s marketplace makes purchasing professional services as easy as shopping for any other product online. With a fully automated site that matches customers with local professional, Armut has simplified and streamlined an otherwise daunting process.

Basak and Erol bring complementary skills and unrivaled passion to the table. Basak studied Civil Engineering before receiving an MBA from Koc University and a Masters in Marketing and Communications from Loyola. She was part of Coca Cola’s marketing team, and was a brand manager at Revlon. Erol received his MBA from the University of Michigan, worked at Proctor and Gamble, and later for Koc Holding.

The couples’ brand allows clients to find reputable professionals with ease. It is the first marketplace in Turkey that both facilitates the purchase of services and displays customer reviews of the service providers whom they have used. It is extremely transparent, and 80% of job requests are match, quoted, and won.
