Alex de Botton and his partner Mark Barcinski became close friends while pursuing bachelor degrees in Economics at the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both went on to be awarded exchange programs at the University of Illinois, finish their degrees and pursue postgraduate studies at business school. They founded Propay in 1999 and quickly established the Company as a market player in human resource (HR) and business process outsourcing (BPO).

In October 2009, Alexandre became Managing Director, Brazil for Korn Ferry, a talent management company.
