Satellogic, founded by Endeavor Entrepreneur Emiliano Kargieman, successfully launched its first two satellites with the Chinese space mission “Long March 4B” this month. The two ÑuSat satellites, nicknamed “Fresco” and “Batata”, are the first in a potential Earth Observation network of hundreds of satellites that the company is working to develop. Launched in 2011, Satellogic has the mission of making satellite technology much more accessible and affordable for commercial use.
Satellogic officials say the company’s planned satellite fleet will help customers monitor crops and fields, support the oil and gas industry, and aid governments in keeping track of critical infrastructure. Each ÑuSat craft hosts three cameras to capture imagery in color, infrared and in the hyperspectral regime, which gives analysts additional information about the makeup of objects, plants and terrain. Satellogic plans to launch four more satellites by the end of the year. These two satellites are the first members of a constellation the company hopes to include 25 spacecraft, and potentially hundreds more.
“We have confirmation from the ground station in Bariloche: Fresco & Batata are healthy and sending strong signals,” Kargieman tweeted after the successful launch. “The launch is a 100% success.”
As a result of the company’s innovation and accomplishment with the launch, Emiliano also had the opportunity to meet with Argentina President Mauricio Macri and Minister of Science and Technology Lino Barañao. Since his selection by Endeavor in 2014, Emiliano and his team have been set up with a local advisory board of Endeavor mentors who have helped them refine their business model and continue to scale the company’s offerings. Satellogic also became an Endeavor Catalyst investment in late 2014.
