South African company BrandsEye, led by Endeavor Entrepreneurs, Jean-Pierre “JP” Kloppers and Craig Raw, offered an innovative look into the recent US presidential election, accurately predicting the outcome in advance using analysis of more than 27 million social media conversations by almost 3 million authors.
BrandsEye tabulated advocacy for each of the candidates by expressing positive sentiment of one candidate as well as negative sentiment towards the other as a percentage of total emotive conversations. Using their unique crowd sourcing technology to establish confidence levels of 99% with a 1.67% margin of error on this vast data base, the company found it likely that voters would elect Donald J. Trump — contrary to mainstream polls’ predictions of a Hillary Clinton win.
Prior to the election, JP appeared on BBC News to discuss the technology’s prediction. His interview may be viewed in the YouTube video below.
With a quarter of the world using social media, humans cannot process the volume of online conversations. BrandsEye’s proprietary platform enables consumer-facing brands to listen to what their customers say about them in order to better inform their business strategy. The platform incorporates a crowd-sourcing layer to add nuance to the raw information, which in turn makes the data more accurate than competitors’.
With support from Endeavor South Africa, BrandsEye was selected into the Endeavor network at the 57th International Selection Panel in Singapore in February, 2015.
