In a recent survey conducted by Intel Turkey and Future Bright, a Turkish marketing research consultancy, Endeavor Entrepreneur Nevzat Aydin was identified as the top entrepreneurial role model by university students, ahead of Apple’s Steve Jobs and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Nevzat, along with co-founders Melih Ödemiş and Cem Nufusi, sold their food delivery service Yemeksepeti.com for $589 million in 2015, marking the biggest deal of its kind to date for a Turkish tech firm.
The research study touched on a broad range of subjects and surveyed participants ranging in ages from 8 to 55 from across ten Turkish cities. Part of the study involved surveying university students’ views on entrepreneurship and found that 78% would consider becoming entrepreneurs rather than pursue traditional careers. The study subsequently revealed that Nevzat was seen as a primary entrepreneurial role model to young Turks over more famed entrepreneurs like Jobs and Zuckerberg.
Selected into the Endeavor network in 2007, Yemeksepeti’s founders have received strategic guidance from Endeavor mentors as well as introductions to key investors, having attended and participated in a number of Endeavor events around the world. Endeavor Catalyst participated in Yemeksepeti’s 2012 $44 million funding round led by General Atlantic. Its acquisition also marked Catalyst’s second successful exit. The company made headlines when Nevzat shared $27 million in bonuses with employees, cementing the company’s status as an Endeavor success story.
