Exceptionally passionate entrepreneurs, David Assael and David Basulto, have turned their love of design into a business with global potential. Plataforma Networks runs two leading blogs, one Spanish and one English.

As students at Santiago’s Universidad Catolica, Assael and Basulto decided to build two blogs, focusing on architecture in South America. By featuring content from users, they developed a source of high quality free content and cultivated a loyal and highly participatory user-base that led to millions of site visits within the first two years.

Assael and Basulto’s blogs grew from a hobby to a business when they graduated from architecture school in 2007 and 2008 respectively. They decided to focus on Plataforma Arquitectura and developed a plan for monetizing the site’s traffic by marketing design products and construction materials to the architects that visited their sites. The result was win-win: architects visiting the site can look at the specifications of the newest masterpieces, including the materials and products used and available to incorporate into their designs, and the businesses that design and develop new products can market them efficiently, driving sales and innovation.

Plataforma Networks has established a unique position in the market and their services have become extremely valuable to end-users. To architects, their blogs provide inimitable resources. Assael and Basulto’s proven ability to build valuable online communities has laid the groundwork for their ambitious plans. ArchDaily and Plataforma Arquitectura are already high impact blogs, influencing young, talented architects across Latin America and the world.
